Schloss Moyland stands as an impressive example of baroque architecture in the municipality of Bedburg-Hau, not far from the city of Kleve in North Rhine-Westphalia. Designed by renowned architect Justus Heinrich Döbbing, it was built in 1766 and originally served as a residence for the Counts of Moyland. Throughout its history, the castle went through various phases, changed owners multiple times, and ultimately found new owners in the von Steengracht family, who lovingly restored it and transformed it into a cultural center.
In the past, Schloss Moyland was a vibrant center of social life, hosting extravagant parties, banquets, and cultural events. It received illustrious guests such as Emperor Wilhelm II and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, whose visits are still palpable in the historic rooms today.
Currently, Schloss Moyland houses a museum and an art foundation, which present an important collection of modern and contemporary art, primarily works by artist Joseph Beuys. Changing exhibitions offer visitors a profound insight into various artistic epochs. Additionally, the picturesque park grounds invite visitors to leisurely walks and moments of tranquility. The castle grounds are also regularly used for cultural events such as concerts and theater performances, attracting tourists and art enthusiasts from all over the world.
