The symmetry and harmonious proportions of the palace are characteristic of 18th-century architecture.
In its history, Bellevue Palace played a decisive role in Germany’s political development. Originally used as a country house by Karl August von Hardenberg, it was acquired by Friedrich Wilhelm IV. of Prussia in 1843. It changed owners several times within the Prussian royal family and occasionally served as a royal residence. During World War II, the palace suffered severe damage but was lovingly restored in the following years.
